Early in the morning we hit the strawberry patch to pick up some more berries. I want to milk them for all they're worth, as the season is almost over. I am freezing a bunch so that I can relive my favourite time of year when the weather gets nasty again.
Then we went with Nana to Storybook Gardens. Maisie had quite a bit of two year old angst, and wasn't in the best of moods.
Although these pictures don't necessarily show it, she was the definition of miserable. She didn't want to do anything...everything was "NO!!!". It was rough. So I had great reservations about taking her to fireworks that night.
After the nap that almost didn't happen (which would have been a recipe for serious disaster), she changed into her Canada Day outfit, and we were off to start the festivities!
We went out to dinner with Sean & Tina, Mike and Dave, and Maisie was painfully shy. She wouldn't look at anyone, and would only sit on my lap. She even had to eat on my lap...that was fun. I had to get my quesadillas cut up for me!
We were early for fireworks, so we went to Sean & Tina's house for a drink. Maisie suddenly flew out of her shyness and became Tina's little shadow. She played with their dogs, fed their fish and asked Tina if she could go downstairs with her to get some toys. Then she ran around outside for a while. By that point, she was officially comfortable (although not with anyone else...just Tina!), so we headed off to fireworks.
On Tina's lap...of course! |
The fireworks were awesome! This was Maisie's first fireworks, and she loved them...she watched quite a bit of them before she lost interest and just ran around, playing with her toys and dancing for Tina. We got home at 11:30, and she went to bed and fell almost right to sleep.
Judging by the way the day started, I was so happy by how it ended. She was as good as gold, and made a great impression. I was so proud of my girl!
Happy 144th Birthday Canada!
